You asked about the stack

HR gave you 12 weeks. California can give you up to 29.

Both numbers are true. HR is quoting one law. California has four.

What HR quotes
CFRA · 12 weeks
What the laws stack to
PDL · up to 4 months
CFRA · 12 weeks

Up to 29 weeks of job protection, and the paid layer runs underneath: PAID disability and Paid Family Leave replace up to 90% of your wages in 2026, up to $1,765 a week.

The 12 weeks HR mentioned is real. It comes from CFRA, California's bonding leave law.

But if you're pregnant and work a W-2 job in California, another law kicks in first. Pregnancy Disability Leave protects your job for up to 4 months while you're pregnant and recovering. These two laws stack, and almost nobody explains that part.

You already paid for the money side. It's the CASDI line on your paystub.

The Leave Blueprint shows you how to stack these programs around your own due date, in the right order, with real support until you're back at work.

Figures are 2026 California rates. Your amounts depend on your income and claim dates. This is education, not legal advice.
